SLEEVES UP - NO VOTE, NO FUTURE CAMPAIGN AND KNOW YOUR PARTY SYMBOL

About Sleeves Up
Sleeves Up is a non-governmental, non-profit and non-partisan organisation that presents a platform for the millions of young Nigerians across the nation and beyond that are tired of just “talking the talk”; young Nigerians ready to “walk the walk”. This platform creates an opportunity for us to come together, go beyond the challenges of the nation, and step into the level of proffering solutions. We are committed to making CHANGES driven by the simple notion that the youth have the capacity to affect the state of affairs in this country, if they stop TALKING and start DOING.

TEN REASONS TO VOTE
In addition, as executed in January when Sleeves Up encouraged eligible voters to register through its Register Campaign, the group has developed a creative list of “Ten Reasons To Vote”. The purpose of this strategy is to compel people who already believe that there is no reason to vote as this election may be rigged and their votes will not count. Sleeves Up’s mandate is to quell this apathy as much as possible through rigorous radio campaigns and street rallies. The Street Running Campaign will start at 08:00am on Thursday 14th April. Sleeves Up members and volunteers will be engaged to come out in their numbers, “donating their day” to run the streets of Lagos.

The communications pieces will also be broadcast all over the web and on the radio. “It is our desire that all registered Nigerian youth turn out to vote for candidates of their choice and are positively active through constructive projects in their communities even after the elections, as we start the collective building of the Nigeria of our dreams. We will no longer be silent, we will no longer be asleep and we will no longer be exploited through our supposed inactivity. This new awakening of the Nigerian youth can only produce one thing, UNSTOPPABLE CHANGE! We are not generation next; we are GENERATION NOW“, the organisation said.

On Thursday 14th April, Sleeves Up hit the streets of Lagos with its “No Vote, No Future” Campaign. From Oshodi to Ikeja, Ketu to Obalende, Marina, Victoria Island to the densely populated Agege, Surulere, Maryland and other key locations in Lagos State in an energetic Street Running Rally that compels youth’s participation in this year’s elections. Armed with communications materials featuring their popular “10 Reasons to Vote” and “Know Your Party’s Symbol” fliers, communities will be encouraged one-on-one once more to ensure their voices are heard through their votes.

KNOW YOUR PARTY’S SYMBOL!
With the 2011 Presidential Elections a week away, recent findings suggest that Nigerians do not know the logos/symbols of the other parties outside the two or three most popular ones, even though they know the candidates that represent them. Sleeves Up has decided to tackle this issue head-on in its “No Vote, No Future” campaign. This campaign is an avenue to educate Nigerians on who the candidates are and most importantly, what the different party symbols are. The series of educational messages is modelled in a way that the Nigerian youth populace can understand.
