YOUNG ENTREPRENEURS TO BE RECOGNISED AT ABUJA AWARDS

Concerned about the marginalization and relegation of youths to the background at major awards ceremony and the lack of motivation and zeal in the life of the average youth in the country today, a group of goal and focus driven youths have taken it upon themselves to break this cycle of obscurity within the youths of today by organizing for the first time, an awards ceremony to honor young entrepreneurs in the nation’s capital, Abuja tagged ‘’Abuja Young Entrepreneurs Awards (AYE).

This noble project is being put together by Fusion Lifestyle Limited in partnership with The Connector Limited. The main objective of this award is to reward young business owners who are doing well by way of managing their businesses by themselves as the present economy is a very harsh one where only the strong
survives.

The main award ceremony will hold at the Abuja International Conference Centre on Friday 20th April, 2012 and will feature a pre-event cocktail hour and the ceremony proper, which will be a night of glamour and entertainment, this will precede a nominees’ party on Saturday, 25th April. The awards will feature 11 categories which will feature Fashion and Style, Health and Beauty, Food and Drink, Hospitality and Tourism, Business, Education, Media and Arts, Information and Communications Technology, Philanthropy, Entertainment and the Abuja Young Entrepreneur of the year.

Nominations for the awards was thrown open to the general public in which over 6000 nominations were received by the panel of judges all within the space of one month and were subsequently pruned down to five per category. However, voting is still ongoing and will run from Wednesday 1st of February to Saturday 31st march, 2012. All voting should be done on the official website of the awards at the www.ayeawards.com, the profiles and photographs of the nominees are also present there.

Speaking on the motive behind the awards, the founder of Fusion Lifestyle Limited, Samiah Oyekan-Ahmed is of the opinion that ‘’there is this misconception most people have about the youths of Abuja that they are too lazy to earn a decent living for themselves and that they are very ostentatious in the way they live, this is not true as many youths in the nation’s capital today are goal and achievement driven in all that they do. I must say that things are changing for the best as it concerns the youths here, as they can run and sustain an average business on their own without undue recourse to parental wealth’’.

Samiah went on to say that ‘’this wind of change is most noticeable among the ladies as they now apply balance in the way they joggle family and business together, hence the need why these youths should be recognized for this dint of hard work and creativity they have shown in their respective fields of endeavors’’.
