Lagos Agog for Laffs & Jamz

 

Ever since the return of one of Nigeria’s most entertaining shows, Laffs & Jamz by one of Nigeria’s leading comedians, Basketmouth, the entire city of Lagos is agog with the hype the show has generated since its return last month. 

The show took place on the 25th of June 2011 at Ember Creek in Ikoyi Lagos. Nigerian with comedians like I Go Dye, Bovi, Gandoki, Buchi, Bash, Senator, Osama, Klint da Drunk and Lafeef Love Joy from the UK  while the likes of Naeto C, M.I and Bez made people dance and sing along with Cool DJ Jimmy Jatt on the wheel of steel. The event was a huge success.

The show which has been repackaged for quality entertainment and massive pleasure is sure bigger, better and more refreshing with  new concepts, venue, approach and platform unlike the previous concept, which featured Basketmouth as the only host.

The all-new Laffs n Jamz celebrates a headlining comedian and musician for every edition. This
 makes every concert different as it is centered on the host and his own unique style. This month edition which is scheduled for July 30 will feature various musicians like Jessy Jagz, Terry G, Ice Prince, W4, Timi Dakolo and Bez. The comedians on parade are Okey Bakassi, I Go Dye, Bovi, Maleke, I Go Save, Mr Patrick, Funny Bone, Chi Curl and Igos.
Speaking concerning the re-packaged show, Basketmouth said “one of the core concepts of the initial birth of Laffs n Jamz was to create a platform where upcoming comedians and musicians can use in exposing their talents and brands. Jide Chord plays a new chord

 Tokunbo, real name, Tokunbo Akinwunmi, 21, is the son of Juju Musician Jide Chord  has released a brand new single titled OMOGE . He began his musical journey 11 years ago by following his dad to shows and performances from the age of 10. He later became a back up singer for his dad’s band. Tokunbo, a singer, songwriter and producer is currently a Theatre Arts undergraduate @ LASU. He is a multi instrumentalist who plays the drums, keyboard, guitar and the talking drum.  He featured Kida Kudz (winner of Peak Talent Show 2010) on the track and the track was produced by Tokunbo himself. ARA THE FEMALE TALKING DRUMMER SEPARATES FROM HER HUSBAND

Respected entertainer and one of Africa's leading talking drummers, Ara, has issued a statement, saying she's parting with her husband Prince Nurudeen Olalekan Saliu.

The couple exchanged wedding vows on June 4, 2009.

The pair will remain friends, Ara says. And they will continue to jointly support their child.

"We've been separated since January', the musician says. 'But because I do not want rumours to start flying, and I think, out of respect, all my friends and fans need to know what's happening to me, I think it's right to set the records straight once and for all on this. We're no longer together and we're both happy. We've both moved on'.

'I'm single again. But I will not be searching for now'.

Open Letter to President Jonathan

This open letter stems from the concerns of young Nigerians about the palpably crawling growth of this nation. It is an issue which gnaws at every well meaning citizen whose hopes has been rekindled by the coming into power of President Goodluck Jonathan as the first civilian president from a minority group in Nigeria.

It is therefore pertinent that we also state our immediate needs which we believe will be a short and long term practical solution to the seemingly irrevocable hitch inherent in the nation's marrow.

The first appeal is the reconstitution of the entire education system. It is solely the first and major step to the sustainable socio-economic growth of any developing nation. The Short-term needs which can be urgently implemented includes the rehabilitation of existing infrastructure, the provision of basic resources and materials that are required to provide an educational environment that promotes teaching and learning. There should also be a focus on teacher’s retraining and capacity building and teachers should as a matter of urgency, be provided with professional development and in-service training as necessary, to increase their performance in the classroom and subsequently, help their students to succeed academically.

It is impossible to have the quality of education that is expected in the 21st Century within a context of poor infrastructures and limited resources.
The long term needs, which are also imperative is the need for massive infrastructural development- including laboratories and libraries, the gradual re-introduction of the boarding system into Public Schools, investment in research and development in the universities.

General Muhammadu Buhari; has demanded the immediate release of Nasir El Rufai

 The Presidential Candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change(CPC) and former Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari; has demanded the immediate release of former FCT minister,Mallam Nasir El-Rufai who was detained by the State Security Service(SSS) Saturday morning. El-Rufai was arrested at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport upon his arrival from London without being told of the reasons for his arrest and whisked to the SSS Headquarters.
Gen Buhari condemns this brazen act of intimidation, harassment and flagrant violation of citizens right in a democratic atmosphere "It only shows that there are more people in our country who know how to win by hook and crook than those who know how to make proper use of their 'victory'"he said. He added that hounding innocent citizens to detention in less than a month in office while failing to rise to the security challenges facing the nation shows a regime that does not understand what its priorities should be. He therefore calls for the immediate release of El-R ufai from unjust incarceration by the SSS who can then proceed to prefer whatever charges they have against him in court If he has committed any offence known to the laws of the land."But to keep him in gaol without any charges will only cast the administration in the mould of a vindictive regime that is launching a wave of political repression because it is jittery".he concluded.

Lagos| Nigeria - MTV Networks Africa and Silverbird Television are to add extra sizzle to the MTV Base block on STV, by introducing an intense new Nigerian ‘flava’ to their early-evening programme line-up. 

Starting July 2011, MTV Base and Silverbird Television will introduce a series of brand new, co-produced TV shows on their 18:00-19:00 block, airing Monday to Saturday.  The shows will include a host of Nigerian themed music and lifestyle programmes and the partners’ first ever Friday night entertainment show, to be filmed on location in STV’s Lagos studios.

The new-look MTV Base block on STV will include The Official Club Chart (a weekly Nigerian club chart mixed by top Nigerian DJs) and Street Request, a weekly request show that will see MTV camera crews invading various Lagos hotspots to ask viewers to select their hottest jams.  Tuesday nights will witness the welcome return of MTV Base quiz show Base.IQ, the ultimate pro-am test of music knowledge, while Wednesday evenings will see the makeover of MTV’s famous format MVP (Most Voted Playlist), with a purely Naija twist - as viewers take over the programming reins to choose their favourite Nigerian videos.

The highlight of STV’s MTV Base block will be an exciting off-the-wall Friday night studio-based show, packed with stars, celebrity interviews, entertainment news and hot new music videos.  Starting 5 August 2011, the as-yet unnamed show will be hosted by a top Naija celebrity, ably assisted by VJ “C-VON” Okpala.

As an added treat, through July and August, C-VON will be hosting a special series called Flashback – looking back at some of the coolest Nigerian content from the MTV Base’s programming archive. Full of treats, Flashback is the place to catch sight of exclusive footage of Nigerian stars before they “blew up”, including a younger 2Face Idibia talking about his journey to stardom or a youthful D’Banj before he really hit the big time in 2006!
