HHWA now to be known as THE HEADIES

The organisers have announced, in a mini release issued early Tuesday that the 2011 edition of Nigeria's biggest music honours event, HipHopWorld Awards, will not hold in Lagos this year.
Executive Producer Ayo Animashaun, who founded the awards in 2006, also says the organizing committee has agreed to change the name of the award to THE HEADIES.

These and more, were contained in an exclusive release personally signed by Animashaun.
"We're moving out of Lagos again" Animashaun who's the CEO of Smooth Promotions, commented.
"This will be the second time we're leaving Lagos. We had the show in Abuja in 2009 and Abuja showed us love. Since then there's been clamor from different regions for us to come stage the awards there. And as a truly and proudly national brand we're very open to moving the show all over Nigeria. So when the opportunity came again, we happily grabbed it!".

Just a year ago, fast-rising rapper Olaitan Olaonipekun, popularly known as DAGRIN transformed from a wordsmith into a Nigerian hip-hop legend. Although his music, which was characterized mainly by the deft use of words in his native tongue infused with unadulterated hip-hop elements, was gaining momentum just before his death, just like Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, Dagrin got bigger in death. The buzz created by the news of his passing drew the attention of many who rarely pay attention to rap music and got them professing respect for his uncommon talent. They inevitably became fans.

Just two albums to his name  - the unpopular ‘Still on the Matter’, released in 2006, and the 2009 release, ‘Chief Executive Omoita (C.E.O)’, which propelled him into the limelight - it definitely had to be more than music that gave the 26-year-old cult hero status in death. A lot of emphasis was made on his music immediately after he passed and he won a couple of posthumous awards and recognitions; however, stories of his hustle and dogged lifestyle have presently taken to the fore.

“We want to tell the whole world the plights of young musicians by showing what Dagrin went through in his daily life to make sure his dream becomes a reality,” Trybson said about the movie.

I was born in Lagos Surulere to be precise, but I grew up in Ijanikin Lagos state. I was born into the family of Mrs and Mrs Babatunde Abegunrin. I am the third child of four children 3 girls and a boy. I attended learning field primary school, and furthered my education in Hope Bay College and graduated from Obafemi Awolowo University, with a B.sc in Sociology and Anthropology.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE CHILDHOOD MEMORY?
My favorites childhood memory, was when I used to visit Amusement park in early 90's. Then I was a little kid it used to fun...WoW!

YOU WORKED AS A SUB EDITOR IN OVATION, TELL US ABOUT IT?
(Laughs) I never did, the C.E.O of Ovation Magazine is a godfather to Lee Magazine, so we could not help the closeness.

WHEN DID YOU DECIDE TO START PUBLISHING YOUR OWN MAGAZINE?
Basically I had the plans during my service year, because I have always been an entrepreneur from my first year in the university. I started officially in November 2009, and dropped my maiden edition in February 2010.

WHAT INSPIRED THE LEE MAGAZINE?
 I love reading magazines, both international and local especially the entertainment ones. So I thought owning my own magazine would not be a bad idea, I decided to put Lifestyle, Entertainment and Entrepreneur all together which gave birth, to Lee Magazine.

Wise, Control Feat 9ice, Classy Girl, undisputed he featured in a number of 9ice's tracks including Talk I am Listening, Alapomeji Anthem, Gbongilagila. BREAKING NEWS : VETERAN ACTOR ASHLEY NWOSU IS DEAD

Veteran actor Ashley Nwosu was admitted  at the military hospital in Yaba and he was in deep coma. Eye witness reports said the actor ''cannot talk,eat or walk and he eyes and mouth and hanging open and food is being passed from a tube inserted through his nose into his stomach. The actor who has been in hospital for close to a month was suffering from severe liver problems.

The Actor passed out this morning at the Military Hospital in Yaba . May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace..

Chidinma Ekile, Iyanya Mbuk and Mike Anyasodo stormed Ghana in the company of their managers, publicists and MTN officials for the Ghana Music Awards, and did not only receive warm welcomes on the yellow carpet, but were also invited to Y FM 

“The highest point of the trip for me was visiting 107.9 Y FM; we met with a lot of radio presenters. And I didn’t know we had loads of fans in Ghana, it was so much fun” 

Iyanya on the other hand says “I really had fun, we all hooked up with Damilola, this is someone I met during the competition in 2008, and I haven’t seen her since then.  It’s also good to see that the music industry is booming in West Africa” They also met with Kesse, and Christian at MJ Grand Hotel where they posed for pictures and played catch up.

NFF CONDOLES OLUBAYO ADEFEMI's FAMILY

The Nigeria Football Federation has sent a letter of condolence to the family of Nigerian international defender, Olubayo Adefemi, who was killed in a car crash in Greece on Monday.

In a letter signed by 1st Vice President of the Federation, Chief Mike Umeh, the NFF mourned thFederation, Chief Mike Umeh, the NFF mourned the passing of one of the aces in the re-building process embarked upon by Super Eagles’ Head Coach, Samson Siasia, and prayed that Almighty God would grant the player eternal rest and also grant the family and his other loved ones the fortitude to bear the big loss.
“Olubayo was such a gentle, disciplined, dedicated and thoroughly committed Member of the Nigeria senior team, Super Eagles, and was a key element in the re_building plans of the new Head Coach, Mr. Samson Siasia.

“We mourn deeply about this sudden demise of one of the gems of Nigerian football, who had represented our dear country at both U_20 and U_23 levels, winning laurels all the way, and there is no gainsaying that as a wonderful football player and person, Olubayo was an embodiment of humility and discipline, as severally attested to by his Coaches at club and national levels.

Organisers of the annual music jamboree, Havana Music Carnival, have announced that the 45th edition of the carnival earlier scheduled for 22 to 25 March, 2011 in Ibadan has been postponed. According to a press release from the event’s management company, Zmirage Marketing & Communications (ZMC), the carnival was postponed ‘‘due to the wave of political tension and the heated electioneering process in the country as these uncertainties would have implications on the security and safety of the stakeholders’’. Now scheduled after the election period, the organisers said, ‘‘[Having] considered many factors especially the peculiar political situation in Ibadan, the traditional venue for Havana Music Carnival, and as such agreed to hold the event after the general elections in Nigeria when the external environment will be predictable to a certain extent’’, the release reads.
