Train Moves To UNIBEN

Presently causing a whole lot of excitement among campus students is the ETISALAT EasyCliq's CliqFest campus road show. Since the news of this campus show filters into campuses via social network sites such as Facebook and Twitter, campus students especially those on the four campuses that will be hosting the first stage of the show – Federal University of Technology, Akure; Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife; University of Ibadan, Ibadan and University of Benin had been excited and looking forward to hosting the CliqFest Train in their various campuses.
CliqFest is a repacked form of the EasyCliq Campus Storm. The show which used to be majorly all about entertainment had been restructured with the introduction of motivational seminar session and a film show.
Prior to the day of the show, the EasyCliq's CliqFest train will stage a 10 day road show around the city where the event will be held to sanitize the campus students and youths in these cities about the event, EasyCliq and other Etisalat's services and products.
The motivational seminar will be handled by astute motivational speaker, Niyi Adesanya on all the campuses and the compeer for the event is MC Bash. The grand finale will be held at the University of Benin, Benin City (Thursday 27 and Friday 28 July) where star rapper MI and the Choc Boiz alongside DR Sid, Wacomzy and the top 3 Nigerian Idols winners, will be performing. The UNIBEN event will be a two day show, starting with seminar and film show.

Singer Amy Winehouse found dead in her London home

Amy Winehouse, the singer and songwriter who shot to fame with "Rehab," won five Grammy Awards and sold more than 5 million albums, has died. She was 27.

Winehouse was found dead at her home in northern London.

Dozens injured, buildings damaged after Norway city blast

According to sources online, It remains unclear what caused the blast or if it was a terrorism attack. The Prime Minister was reported to be safe.

The cause of the blast was unknown but the tangled wreckage of a car was outside one building. Police and fire officials declined to comment on the cause. Injured people were seen lying on the street in pools of blood.

The 17-storey building, which also houses Norway's biggest tabloid newspaper VG, was reported to be on fire, with thick black smoke being seen for miles.

Witnesses reported the massive blast blew out most windows in the building as well as nearby government departments including the oil ministry, in Norway’s capital and most populated city.

The blast, which occurred just after lunch on Friday, left at least a dozen people. “Some people covered with blood are lying in the street.” Other offices are being evacuated.

Ghana's Finest Becca set to release Sophomore album

From out of Ghana comes the beautiful, multiple award winning singer-songwriter, Becca. In the course of her career, which she started in 2007, she has made giant strides as a Ghanian singer. Working with and sharing the stage with Africa's biggest acts from Hugh Masekela, to 2face Idibia amongst many others. Her debut album, Sugar, was launched in November 2007 to moderate success. And in that time, her music has crossed over from Ghana to other parts of Africa.

Akin 'Shuga' Tofowomo repostions Limb Foundation

Polio surely chose the wrong victim several years ago when it struck the little Akin Tofowomo. The then polio stricken little boy has grown to become a walking man on a mission to eradicate limb deformity in Nigeria, through Shuga Limb Foundation (SLF), a non profit foundation doggedly committed to individuals with limb defects, founded by Shuga Band, the classy and topmost music band in Nigeria.

Despite its constant growing list of beneficiaries, Shuga Limb Foundation is yet to tire; rather, the foundation is been repositioned to serve people with limb challenges better.  A new website www.shugafoundation.org has been designed to make the foundation more visible and to make it better and easier for people to access its services. The foundation has also increased the number of its staff so as to increase its capacity for service.

Founded in 2009, the core objectives of the foundation is to provide assistance to less privileged persons with limb defect, whose deformities can be orthopedically managed with the use of  callipers and prosthesis. FINALISTS EMERGE FROM DANCE234 AUDITIONS

After some rigorous secession of auditions in Abuja, Enugu, Benin and Lagos, twenty finalists consisting of an equal mix of ten boys and girls has finally emerged from the much anticipated show, Dance234 auditions.  

The 20 finalists who were picked from the four auditions will soon enter the camp in Lagos and begin the show which will be subject to weekly eviction. However, before the camping exercise begins, exciting clips from the audition will soon hit airwaves on DSTV and terrestrial TV stations.

As earlier promised by KOGA, the emerging power house in Nigerian entertainment industry and the brain behind the show,  winner from the Dance234 competition will be going home with a grand prize of a car, N1, 000, 000 (one million naira), and a dance course abroad .

Speaking on the round of auditions and the selected twenty finalists, Preere Yibowei one of the judges has this to say, ‘The Dance234 auditions have been an exciting and highly tasking journey all the way. KISS AND TELL’ RANKED THE FIFTH MOST WATCHED NOLLYWOOD MOVIE TO HIT THE CINEMAS

Recent statistics from the cinemas has revealed that ‘KISS AND TELL’ the movie by star actress Monalisa Chinda and prolific producer, Emem Isong is ranked the fifth most watched Nollywood movie ever to hit the cinemas; following the trail of movies like; ‘Ije’, ‘Figurine’, ‘Anchor Baby’ and ‘Tango with Me’.

Right form the night of its premiere, many predicted the movie was going to be a hit and they have been proven right as ‘KISS AND TELL’ has continued to attract wide patronage since its arrival at cinemas across the nation on Friday, July 1, 2011.

The brilliant flick directed by Desmond Elliot, features top Nollywood actors like Desmond Elliot, Monalisa Chinda, Nse Ikpe-Etim, Uche Jombo, Joseph Benjamin, Bhaira Mcwizu, Darlene Benson and others.

ALICIA KEYS TO OPEN HER HEART TO AFRICAN YOUTH IN FINAL EPISODE OF “MTV BASE MEETS…WITH MTN”

Lagos, Nigeria 15 July 2011: Award-winning musician, writer, producer, humanitarian, and activist Alicia Keys is to be interviewed by African youth in the final episode of MTV Base Meets…with MTN, the upcoming TV series that empowers African youth by bringing them face to face with the political, business and cultural elite.  

Keys, who has sold more than 30 million albums worldwide and won 14 Grammy Awards since her breakthrough 2001 album debut Songs in A Minor, will meet with a panel of youth from all over the African continent in an intimate Q&A session that will see her reveal her thoughts on music, as well as important issues such as HIV and AIDS, poverty, and more.  

Beyond music, Keys is also a tireless AIDS activist and philanthropist. Leading telecommunications company in Nigeria, MTN, in partnership with Style House Files and the British Council Nigeria, has announced the dates and venues of the regional auditions and interviews for the 12 young designers to feature at its high profile fashion and design event slated for October, MTN Lagos Fashion and Design Week.

According to the General Manager, Consumer Marketing, MTN Nigeria, Mr. Kola Oyeyemi, the auditions will hold in Port Harcourt, Abuja and Lagos to draw up a shortlist of applicants from which the 12 finalists will be selected for the four-day show.

Giving more details, Oyeyemi said the auditioning team will first berth in Port Harcourt on the 25th and 26th of July at the British Council Office, 127 Olu Obasanjo Road, GRA Phase 2. He said the next audition and interviews will hold in Abuja on the 28th and 29th of July at the British Council Office, Plot 3645, IBB Way, Maitama, while the last port of call of the team will be Lagos on the 2nd and 3rd of August at the British Council Office, 20 Thompson Avenue, Off Bourdillon, Ikoyi, Lagos. All three auditions will hold between 10am through 5pm each day, he said.

Oyeyemi said a large number of entries have already been received by the organisers from across the country. "Public interest is high. We did envisage that several young local designers would show interest, but we are amazed and very pleased with the level of interest shown so far", said Mr. Oyeyemi.

The MTN Lagos Fashion and Design Week will feature a combination of fashion and design-focused activities, talent hunt for international modelling contracts and Young Designer of the Year as well as exhibitions of creative works ranging from arts, interior designs, photography, and architecture to technology, among others.

According to Oyeyemi, the decision to take the auditions around the three selected locations rather than limit it to Lagos was to give as many Nigerians as possible equal opportunity to participate and win the ultimate prize.

Mrs. Omoyemi Akerele, Managing Director, Style House File, promoters of the event, said the winner of the Young Designer of the Year Award will be presented with a brand new Hyundai Car worth N4.5million by MTN. The MTN/British Council Creative Entrepreneur of the Year will win N1million cash prize also from MTN, while the British Council will sponsor the winner to the London Fashion and Design Week. The MTN Model of the Year will also get N1million.
