The AIESEC Ife Career Fair 2011 held on the 13th of October at the Hilton Hotel, Ile-Ife. It was
themed “Youth to Career: Creating change agents for the work place”. The event was excellent and
was a reflection of the hard work the organising committee put into ensuring the success of the
event.
The event kicked off with the welcome speech from the AIESEC Ife Local Committee President,
Adeyinka Fakunmoju, right after that was the talk of the first guest speaker, Dr. Agboola, the Vice-
Dean of the Faculty of Administration of the Obafemi Awolowo University.
He spoke mainly about starting a business. The lecturer said that in setting up a business capital is
not the first worry, he stated that getting the job done is paramount and after comes fund raising
with creativity. He stated that in setting up and running a business one has to take care of weak
points, know the competition, be fully dedicated to the business and one must be constantly
working and not rest on his oars.
Up next was Mr. Femi Ige, A Human Resources Consultant from Trigait Consulting. Mr. Ige spoke on
the issue of Labour trends. He started by saying that there are various trends in the labour market
and despite the fact that it’s enticing to keep up with trends it’s better for one to come up with his
or her own trend of getting things done because as we all know, what works for one person may not
work for another.
Last but definitely not least was Mr. Tobi Obasa, a partner in Davton 8020 consulting. Mr. Obasa
tackled the topic “Practical steps to becoming a Professional”. Mr. Obasa hit the nail on the head
when he said that there are many graduates and not enough jobs for everyone. In light of this he
encouraged that it is important therefore to make conscious effort to stand out. He closed by saying
that there are numerous things a person can do to stand out today, engaging in extra-curricular
activities, taking professional courses, working with NGOs among and so on.
The Organising Committee President, Ms. Remi Adebayo rounded off the event with the closing
speech and vote of thanks...next year’s career fair promises to be even greater...don’t miss it.
Nice one AIESEC... (Y)
