With the recent passing of Etta James in January, it’s only appropriate that the Recording Academy will pay homage to the late R&B icon with a live performance at the 2012 Grammys. It has now been confirmed that Alicia Keys is the songstress who will perform a tribute to Miss Peaches at the show on Feb. 12.
James died on January. 20, 2012 after a long-term battle with leukemia. Her legacy lives on through timeless songs like ‘At Last’ and ‘I’d Rather Go Blind,’ both of which were covered by Christina Aguilera and Kelly
Clarkson, respectively. Like Aguilera and Clarkson, Keys is a vocal powerhouse with tons of soul, so we think she’ll do an outstanding job paying tribute to James.
Like many female R&B singers, Keys was influenced by Etta James’ career. The ‘Fallin” songstress even tweeted about James the day she passed, writing, “Wow Etta James! :- ( What a phenomenal woman and spectacular voice!”
The Grammy Awards will air on Sunday, Feb. 12 at 8PM EST on CBS.
