Desmond Elliot endorses 'TOBI'

As the scheduled date for the premiere of the movie, TOBI continues to draw closer, Nigerian celebrities at home and in the Diaspora have continued to lend their voices of support to the movie.

The latest celebrity to endorse TOBI (a Nigerian flick shot in New Jersey and New York) is none other than one of Nollywood’s finest stars, Desmond Elliot. Before now, the movie had caught the attention of the likes of popular singer, Muma Gee, former Mr. Nigeria, Bryan Okwara and NMAA’s Most Outstanding Runway model, Crozz amongst others.

Despite his busy scheduled, Desmond Elliot spared time to make a resounding endorsement of the movie, TOBI, which he considered a very positive step in the right direction for the Nigerian movie industry.
Desmond Elliot remains one of Nigeria’s movie ambassadors on the strength of his ability to stand out not just as an actor but also as a brilliant film maker. Today, Desmond Elliot has starred in over two hundred films and so many television shows and soap operas, has more than a few AMAA nominations and is presently on the Globacom’s growing list of ambassadors. Meanwhile, the producer of the movie who was recently in Nigeria has returned to his New York base where he plans to put finishing touches to plans to make the Nigerian premiere of the movie an unforgettable experience.

As the countdown for the Nigerian premiere for TOBI continues, the May 18 date
continues to knock on the door of anticipation for millions of movie lover; both at home and in the Diaspora. TOBI is a drama that explored the consequences of what happens when 21-year-old Tobi (Mark Williams) bows to the dark side of gang pressure. In a flash, a seemingly morally upright young man gets caught in a web of violence, guns, bloodshed, drugs, parental expectations and conflicting voices in his head.

Interestingly, the bond of brotherhood also stretches the thematic window of choices and sacrifice. The director, Bethels Agomuoh further bridges the gap between the Nollywood and Hollywood by shooting a Nigerian picture in the United States with a healthy blend of American and Nigerian cast.
TOBI been scheduled to premiere in Nigerian cinemas on May 18, 2012 and will feature a red carpet premiere in Lagos at Ozone Cinemas.

The movie is proudly supported by Ozone Cinemas, Nigeria Films, Blue Pictures, Emani Studios, City Mall, Moonfaceonline magazine, DSTV, Simply Samad MEDIA, Swish Interactive and a growing list of others.

Synopsis

TOBI draws a line of suspense and takes us into a very visual peek into the halls of education, gang pressure and what many would easily consider the ultimate sacrifice. TOBI, 21, inadvertent bows to the bloodthirsty pressure of a vicious gang. In a flash, a seemingly morally upright young man gets caught in a web of violence, guns, bloodshed, drugs, parental expectations and conflicting voices in his head. Interestingly, the bond of brotherhood stretches the thematic window of choices and sacrifice.

The director, Bethels Agomuoh colourfully bridges the gap between the Nollywood and Hollywood by shooting a Nigerian picture in the United States with a healthy blend of American and Nigerian cast.

Review

Not the kind of story that would instantly fire up the bolts of momentary anticipation
but the dramatic twists, suspense and sterling interpretation of roles by some of the cast
scores high on the pages of a dramatic epic. Ironically, in place of the main story, the
theme of blood bonding between brothers and the cards of sacrifice and selflessness
touch a more sensitive cord.
