On arrival at the Silverbird Galleria on August 5, 2011, the night of the ‘Mirror Boy’ premiere, guests and movie stakeholders alike understood why many hullabaloos preceded the ‘Mirror Boy’ Nigerian premiere. The movie which on that night proved to be in a class of its own had a grand homecoming as the premiere was graced with a lot of pomp and pageantry.
The red carpet for the premiere was billed to start by 5:30pm but movie lovers and journalists who did not want to miss out on any detail about the event were already waiting by 5:00pm. Stars and guests in their numbers started walking in by 6:30pm and in a short while the atrium was filled. The red carpet section lasted for another two hours, giving the paparazzi enough time to have a filled day with the pool of stars and celebrities on the red carpet.
Some stars and celebrities that kept the paparazzi busy were, Omotola, Stephanie Okereke, Segun Arinze, Sunny Neji, AY, Julius Agwu, Gbenga Adeyinka, Chika Ike, Omoni Oboli, Alariwo, Jedi, Kenny Saint Brown, Daniel Adenimokan and Doris Simeon.
After the red carpet, guests and celebrities present for the premiere were ushered into two separate halls that were filled in minutes. Another highlight of the night was that ‘Mirror Boy’

tickets on the night of the premiere were sold for twice the usual price and interestingly, all the tickets made available were sold out.
After treating the guests to different levels of emotions from extremely hilarious to highly touching, they were on their feet with roof shaking applause for ‘Mirror Boy’ at the end of the movie.
The Mirror Boy’, featuring Africa’s finest actors Genevieve Nnaji and Osita Iheme is an enthralling journey as seen through the eyes of a London- born 12 year old African boy, Tijani. After a London street fight on 13th of June, in which a local boy is hurt, Tijan's mother decides to take him back their roots, to Gambia. On their arrival in Banjul, Tijan encounters a strange apparition, a boy smiling at him in a mirror and vanishing. Seeing the same boy in a crowded street market the next day sets in motion a chain of events, with Tijan finding himself lost. While Tijan's panic-stricken mother struggles to find her son, Tijan is left alone in the company of the enigmatic Mirror Boy, seemingly only visible to him. A cathartic climax helps TIJANI to unravel the mystery of the MIRROR BOY. It also provides him with a rather mystical explanation for the way his life has cascaded from the 13th of June towards this inter-twined fate with a father he has never met.
Written, produced and directed by Obi Emelonye, ‘Mirror Boy’ has since the night of the premiere started showing in cinemas across the federation.
