2 FACE IDIBIA AND BLACK FACE PERFORMING

For Now Muzik, the organizers of Touch of Genius: 2face Idibia Tribute, their assurance of “a breath-taking production” was no bluff. Like a long-awaited delivery, they made sure it was as grand as it could get. The many surprises blew the minds of the honoree- 2Face Idibia, guests, fans and even the performing artistes who were to render various songs from off 2faces previous works. The pull and caliber of artistes that performed and those that made appearances substantiated the fact that it was a well deserved honor.

The TOUCH OF GENIUS (T.O.G):2FACE IDIBIA TRIBUTE held at Scintilla on May 28, 2011 was put together to honor a great musical icon whose musical works has been exported outside the shores of Africa. His music has brought international recognition to him as well as attracted the attention of the international music community towards Nigerian musicians. Born and packaged in Nigeria, yet world class, 2baba as he is fondly called has brought hope to the industry as he has come up with results that are world class.

Unlike the first edition held in 2002 which was a Sir. Victor Uwaifo Tribute, this second edition was in honor of a contemporary music icon with a massive acceptance and fan base that cuts across generational divides and continental boundaries especially with reference to his monster hit African Queen.

KAFFY AND LAMI PHILLIPS PERFORMING

For the CEO-Now Muzik, Efe Omorogbe, the criteria for a honoree for this magnitude of tribute was that has he must possess “a body of work that we can run a three hour show on, someone who has local and international recognition, someone relevant in contemporary times”. For him, it was most befitting to start with a reputation as huge as 2face’s.

Even, for the production crew, the choice to honor this genius was one of concession. They wanted someone who was in every sense a genius. After all, geniuses are recognized for their great capacity for hardwork. If there is one artiste today that has earned the right to be so honored at T.O.G: TRIBUTE TO AN ICON, it definitely was 2face Innocent Idibia. For them, it was an honoring of a living legend that has attracted international acceptance and respect for contemporary Nigerian music.
