1st Nigerians to hoist it's flag on the highest mountain in Eastern Europe of Ukraine

History was made on the Saturday,25th sept 2011 when two Nigerians Chinedu Agunanne and Iroko Emamuzo who are final year Pharmacy students of Ternopil State Medical University in Ternopil City of Ukraine climbed to the highest peak of Hoverla mountain (Ukrainian: Говерла, Hoverla; Hungarian: Hóvár; Romanian: Hovârla; Goverla, Czech and Slovak: Hoverla, Polish: Howerla, Russian: Говерла ) which is 2,061 m, and the highest mountain in Ukraine and part of the Carpathian Mountains.

Being so happy of what they have achieved, Chinedu decided to leave a mark by tearing his shirt which had Nigerian 48th Independece inscribed on it to show tourist from the whole world that Nigerians were there.The Hoverla mountain is one of the most visited spot in the  Carpathian Mountains system by tourist around the world.  On Wednesday, October 5, 2011, Enough is Enough Nigeria, Project Alert, Rubies Ink, Delta Women, National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) along with several other civil society organizations and individuals will walk in several cities around Nigeria to raise awareness about violence against women in Nigeria, and in particular, demand action on the gang-rape of a young lady by five young men alleged to be students of Abia State University (ABSU).

The walk will take place in the following cities:
Abia: Walk will commence at the Okpara square in Umuahia, Abia state and conclude at the state house.
Lagos: Protest will hold at the Abia State Liaison Office in Victoria Island, Lagos.
Abuja : Protesters will converge at The Eagle Square

eMJOY, birth name MAYOWA ADEBAJO, is a gospel artist, songwriter and performer, primarily in the HipHop genre. He is currently a university student of Media in Toronto, Canada, and  hails from Ogun state, Nigeria. 

 

Beginnings: At about age 10 Mayowa was already performing for fun to a small group of family but his first concert stage performance happened when high school peers soon noticed his rap talent and featured him in an end of  year variety show concert. He was 15 years at the time and he left the school repeating the chorus of his rendition for a while.

Esther Enitan Ijewere is the Brain behind Rubies Ink and Walk against Rape initiative and it has been running for two years now. Rubies Ink  provides social enterprise solutions to the social challenges plaguing our world. They do this through advocacy, public relations, and other activities. Her Projects W.A.R ( Walk Against Rape) is an initiative created to lend a voice to victims of Rape in the society and also demand justice for them. Recently, I spoke with her about the ABSU 5 Gang Rape and what should be done about it.

What is your take about the ABSU 5 Gang rape that happened on August 17th ?

The power of the social media can't be undermined so also is the strong voice of the Nigerian youths, the culprits used the internet to expose their ugly act, they posed a dare to us and they got feed backs via same medium! Fear of  stigmatization is one of the major reasons why we hardly hear of such cases, people rarely report to the authorities and remain silent victims


Now the case is a national case  even the Minister of Youth and development is also involved in this case what step do you think they should take now?
Government should ensure that the victim is safe and also make the "Rapist" for committing such a crime, they should serve as "scape goats" to others like them who think they can rape or abuse a woman and get away with it.

Can we get to know you?

Sure you can my name is Olufemi  Oladipupo Adeyinka aka Capital F.E.M.I.  Born in Lagos my family is from Ogun State Abeokuta to be precise.   Had some of my early education between Nigeria and the States, until my dad finally decided to have me stay in the States and further my education.  I attended High school and College in the states and now am back home doing what I love to do Music. 

When did you start music?

It didn’t start for me at a very early age being a lover of music happened for me by chance I would say.  I started as a dancer more on the theatre side and caught the singing bug in my late years in high school.  I performed a few talent shows with my friends and that’s how a teacher of mine pulled me to the side and seriously told me that I have a gift and I should think of using it.  Didn’t take it seriously knowing my parents wouldn’t have it especially my father.  It kicked off when I was in my first year in college sang in a few groups then to writing songs and singing hooks for different artist and  then went solo from there and as you know the rest is still being written. 

You came into the country in 2009 , did you have your own plan before coming back?

I was working on my music and looking at what avenues I could get into before I came back home.  


 While growing up, who influenced you?

A lot of people did let me mention a few Steve Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Micheal Jackson, Jodeci, Donell Jones, Brain Mcnight, Joe and so much more.

Update on ABSU 5 Gang Rape

The Nigerian police in Abia State said today they have arrested  two persons in connection with the Abia gang rape case.
Speaking to Sahara Reporters from the police headquarters in Aba, Commissioner of Police in the state, Bala Abdullahi Hassan , stated that police detectives in the state arrested one "Zaki" and his roommate late last night.
The commissioner did not provide the full names of the arrested persons claiming that his detectives would not want to jeopardize the possibility of making more arrests.

Also in another development Sahara Reporters said "Our investigators exclusively confirmed that the rape, which was videotaped and posted online on August 17 2011, took place at "Maranatha Lodge", an off campus student's hostel  near ABSU. Two students, Ifeanyi Ogu Justin  and Jonah Uche have been identified by witnesses, a third perpetrator, "Zaki" is reportedly yet to be fully identified"
